Elantra vs Corolla: Performance Specs

Hyundai Elantra Engine Specs

You want a bit of power, but you don’t want to sacrifice fuel economy. With the Hyundai Elantra, you truly get the best of both worlds. You deserve a bit of pep in your step once you press down on the accelerator, and the Hyundai Elantra will give you just that with the entry-level 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 147 horsepower.

The Toyota Corolla, on the other hand, comes with a smaller 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine. This makes just 139 horsepower and will feel a bit lacking when compared to the Elantra.

That being said, you’d think the Corolla would offer better gas mileage than the Hyundai Elantra, since it has a smaller engine. However, that’s not the case. The Elantra receives an EPA-estimated 33 city/43 highway MPG with the base setup, while the Corolla only gets an EPA-estimated 30 city/38 highway MPG.

Elantra vs Corolla: Interior

It’s important to have an interior that feels like your home away from home. Compact cars may be known for being a bit, well, compact, but the Elantra and Corolla do their best to make good use of the space. However, it’s clear that one of these cars does that better than the other.

For those seated up front, the Elantra truly stands out with 42.3 inches of front legroom and up to 40.6 inches of front headroom. In comparison, the Corolla feels a bit cramped. Despite offering similar front legroom, you’ll have just 38.3 inches of front headroom, which may cause issues for taller drivers.

The good news? Both cars do offer a power sunroof, so you can let in a little bit of light and fresh air whenever you want.

Technology Features

Hyundai Elantra Interior Technology

Both the Elantra and the Corolla are equipped with touchscreens in the center stack area, which can provide a wealth of vehicle information while keeping you connected at all times. Eight-inch touchscreens are available in both the Elantra and Corolla, which makes it easier to track your movements when using your favorite navigation app.

However, drivers who choose the Elantra will have a standard 8-inch touchscreen at their disposal, while the Corolla only provides drivers with a standard 7-inch touchscreen. You’d have to upgrade to a higher trim level to get the 8-inch screen in the Corolla. If you want more standard screen space to work with, you’ll want to look to the Elantra.
